We know that tackling climate change needs a fast, coordinated, collective response. Something not disimilar to the global response to the coronavirus outbreak. Having transformed everyday life, changes have been sudden and wide ranging, on a scale unlike much that any of us have seen before. The same hasn’t happened in response to climate change. Whilst many of the measures implemented due to coronavirus have huge negative consequences and shouldn’t and couldn’t be replicated, this article provides an interesting take on what it might look like if we reacted in a similar way; government funding, new policy making and large scale behaviour change. As a growing number of cities and countries have formally declared a climate emergency, it’s not such a hypothetical question as you might think.
