Positioning Nan Fung as a Sustainability Leader

Overview

Nan Fung Group sought to establish a strong sustainability-focused foundation for its new commercial development, Airside, by engaging food service and retail tenants in a comprehensive program. The Future Green Sustainability Sprint programme aimed to foster a collective commitment to sustainability, equip tenants with the necessary knowledge and tools, and position Airside as a leader in socially and environmentally responsible business practices.

Client Profile: Nan Fung Group

Nan Fung Group is a leading real estate developer with a strong commitment to sustainability. The company’s flagship development, Airside, aimed to set new standards for socially and environmentally responsible commercial spaces. By prioritizing sustainability from the outset, Nan Fung sought to create a thriving ecosystem where businesses could flourish while minimizing their environmental impact.

The challenge

Nan Fung wanted to engage their tenants before the launch of their new Airside development to ensure their kitchens and restaurants were equipped and operated in an environmentally responsible manner. Additionally, there was a need to foster a collaborative culture among tenants to drive collective action towards shared sustainability goals.

Our Approach

  • Pre-launch training: We engaged 9 F&B and retail brands in 3 full days of training and strategy workshops, totalling over 21 hours. This comprehensive training covered key areas in sustainable food service, sourcing, and environmental practices, all aligned with global sustainability frameworks.
  • Collective impact: By bringing tenants together, we fostered a collaborative environment for knowledge-sharing and problem-solving. This fostered a sense of collective action and responsibility towards sustainability goals.
  • Actionable resources: We provided tenants with valuable resources, including policy templates, actionable roadmaps, and CPD certified certificates of course completion. Additionally, a follow-up document summarised key discussions and a client portal offered reporting and evaluation data for Nan Fung.

Deliverables

  • Provision of relevant resources (e.g. policy templates, worksheets, actionable roadmap)
  • Certificates to participants
  • Discussion points and follow up summary document for client
  • Reporting and evaluation data to client via client portal

Measurable results

  • Sustainability leadership: Nan Fung positioned as supporting forward planning / setting up sustainable kitchen from Fit Out stage
  • Upskilled teams: Tenants and Nan Fung teams upskilled in sustainability knowledge
  • Food Vision roadmap: Outlining a clear path towards achieving sustainability goals
  • Early engagement: Engaging tenants during the build phase allowed for sustainable considerations to be integrated into kitchen layouts and procurement strategies.
