IS TOFU REALLY WORSE THAN MEAT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT?

Speaking at the National Farmers Union conference in London, Dr Graham McAuliffe from the Rothamsted Institute referenced new research that suggests tofu may have a bigger impact on climate change than some meat. “If you look at tofu, which is processed so there is more energy going into its production, […] you can see it could actually have a higher global warming potential than any of the monogastric animals. To get the same amount of protein, tofu is worse,” he said.
This report, to be treated with some caution, sums up so many of the challenges associated with food sustainability, oversimplifying the issue for the purposes of ‘clickbait’. Frustratingly there is no ‘solution’ rather individuals will have to balance their priorities and judge for themselves the best course of action. Read more here
